Get by with a little help from my friends.

Well, I decided to try my home town Al-Anon meeting for a third time, guess it is true: Third Times a Charm. There was a good group and we stayed on point with one subject. I took something away from the mCheck Spellingeeting and I hope I gave something back. The group was positive and proactive. I will go again for sure. Today I have taken Annette's advice and left all my loved ones problems to them and took care of me. Have I said how much I appreciate my blog friends and their support:) I am still sad, but allowing it, not fighting it, not letting it consume me.

Good for you! Its all we can do. I feel consumed sometimes, at other times peace. The peace part takes practice. I should try one of my local meetings....

I'm doing a little dance. In the upside world of addiction, you're probably doing more for your son by getting and staying well yourself than by worrying and living in fear. You rock! It reminds of one woman who when asked if she was going to promise to participate in Alanon for her husband's sake said. "I'll not only go, I'll lead the way."

I am really glad you found a meeting that worked, it took me about 4 or 5 tries before I did, so I understand the searching thing. I also understand how it feels to 'find' it!

I love your picture!

I'm glad that went well for you. I can't say I've ever been to an Al-non meeting, but I can related to attending something that goes completely off topic. It's frustrating.

I'm really glad. I tell newcomers to go to about six meetings before they make up their mind. I have to say that I will take away something from every meeting I attend. It may be that there is someone there who shares a pearl or it may be that I get to talk to a person who is struggling. It's all good.

Glad you have found a meeting that works for you.

I have been to many meetings, Al-Anon and Nar-Anon in our area and have not found one that works for me. Principally they are overwhelmingly women at the meeting and I kinda want a Dad's perspective sometimes. (hope that doesn't sound sexist)

My best source of peace has been writing my blog and listening to the comments on my writings and also commenting on others blogs.

I am happy for you.

Yeah! I am so proud of you! Going to new meetings and being the outsider is so hard...but listen with your heart and God will speak to you. All of a sudden, you're not on the outside any more. It's so cool how our programs work.

You guys ROCK!! I love reading your comments, each and every one. I take something away every time I log on and read your words of wisdom, encouragement, support and just plain loving.

Take in other meetings whenever you have the opportunity. They all have a different personality, but they should all have the SAME message. You will find lots of help (I did). I find when I can't make time for AlAnon I start slipping back into my old fearful and controlling behavior.

I am so glad for you! Hope your meeting continues to be a good fit for you and also that you reap the benefits of taking some time to take care of you. :)

I'm so glad you gave it another try! Alanon isn't perfect, but its as good as you make it for yourself. Take good care my friend.
